Prepress InternAt — The Label Shoppe
The Label Shoppe is a full-service flexographic and digital printing company specializing in pressure-sensitive labels, tags, and narrow-web unsupported film for industries including food & beverage, chemical & industrial, health & beauty, and cannabis. Interns will gain hands-on experience in various prepress tasks such as receiving and preflighting customer files in formats like PDF, EPS, PSD, and AI, as well as correcting errors and setting up proofs. Additional training includes scanning artwork, generating barcodes, typesetting, color matching, and RIPing jobs to platemakers and digital presses. Ideal candidates should have basic skills in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, experience with Mac OS, and an eye for color. The internship requires the ability to sit/stand for long periods and lift up to 20 pounds. Candidates will be trained to process CTP printing plates, a key function of the role, and accommodations will be made for eligible individuals under applicable laws.
By the end of this opportunity, students will have learned how to: Receive, preflight, and troubleshoot customer files in various formats (PDF, EPS, PSD, AI). Correct minor errors and make customer-requested file adjustments. Communicate effectively about file deficiencies and solutions. Set up customer proofs using online workflows or PDFs. Scan and recreate artwork from physical samples. Generate barcodes using specialized software. Perform typesetting and manual/automated trapping. Match and correct colors for print production. RIP jobs to platemakers and digital presses. Process CTP printing plates and utilize Hybrid prepress workflows. Develop essential skills in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and work efficiently on Mac OS systems. Through these tasks, students will gain valuable experience in prepress and printing processes, with a focus on real-world applications in the printing industry.
The intern at The Label Shoppe will undergo comprehensive training in various prepress and graphic arts tasks. Throughout the internship, the intern will gain hands-on experience with the latest software tools and printing processes used in the label printing industry.
Interns will receive training on ergonomic workstation setups to prevent strain from extended computer use. They will be trained in the safe operation of printing equipment, with protective gear provided for handling materials. Some tasks may involve lifting up to 20 pounds, with assistance available for heavier items. Interns will be educated on safe handling of chemicals and inks, using appropriate safety protocols like gloves and goggles. A general safety orientation will cover emergency procedures, first aid kits, and PPE requirements such as gloves and safety glasses.
