Opportunity Training

Those interested in working directly with our cats by caring for the animals in our adoption centers will receive in-person training on all tasks that must be completed during each particular shift to ensure the health and well-being of the animals prior to being assigned to a time slot. There are tracking sheets and charts posted inside the visitation room to remind volunteers what needs to be done at various times. Supervisors will be available via phone to answer all questions and provide necessary support. Students participating in adoption events will receive instruction on interfacing with the public and ensuring the cats are adequately cared for, including those that find the fairs stressful. Supervisors will be on site to answer all questions and guide students in handling any atypical situations that arise. Onboarding for remote administrative tasks will involve a phone call or Zoom meeting with the supervisor for the particular project. During this initial contact, goals of the project and a breakdown of tasks will be reviewed. Once the student commits to working on a certain team and completing set assignments, there will be weekly or biweekly check-in sessions over the phone or on Zoom to review the student's progress and address any issues that have come up. Students will have access to supervisors outside of these planned meetings via text or email and can schedule additional calls or Zoom sessions if needed.

Depending on what a given student chooses to participate in, disposal of animal feces or sanitation of litter boxes may be involved. Although all of the cats in our care are friendly towards people and fully domesticated, working with animals is inherently risky as they can scratch and bite. Usually, there are behavioral cues before an incident; however, in certain circumstances, it can occur without warning.
