Keeping Records – Taking attendance and possibly tracking student progress or participation.
Tasks:
Academic Support – Assist students with homework, projects, and studying by providing guidance, explanations, and strategies for understanding their coursework.
Study Skills Development – Teach students effective study techniques, time management, and organizational skills to improve their academic performance.
Classroom Management – Maintain a structured and disciplined environment by enforcing study hall rules, minimizing distractions, and ensuring students remain focused on their work.
Progress Monitoring – Observe and track student progress, identifying areas where they may need additional support, and reporting any academic or behavioral concerns to my supervisor.
One-on-One and Small Group Assistance – Provide individualized help to students who require extra attention, whether through tutoring, reviewing materials, or reinforcing key concepts.
Collaboration with Faculty – Communicate regularly with teachers and my supervisor to align study hall support with classroom expectations and learning goals.
Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving – Assist students in approaching academic challenges by guiding them through problem-solving processes rather than providing direct answers.
Professional Communication – Maintain professionalism in interactions with students, faculty, and parents, ensuring a positive and respectful learning environment.
Report Writing and Documentation – Keep records of student participation, challenges faced, and progress made, providing detailed reports to my supervisor for review.
Fostering Independent Learning – Encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning by setting academic goals and developing self-sufficiency in their studies.
Training:
General Employer Orientation (Mandatory) – An introduction to St. Catherine’s Academy policies, expectations, and procedures, including guidelines for supervising students, enforcing study hall rules, and maintaining a structured learning environment.
Job Shadowing – I will observe experienced staff members and educators to learn best practices in academic support, classroom management, and student engagement before fully assuming my responsibilities.
Weekly One-on-One Mentor Meetings – I will have regularly scheduled meetings with my supervisor to discuss challenges, receive feedback, and set goals for improvement. These sessions will help refine my teaching techniques and ensure alignment with student needs.
Training on Study Skills and Academic Support Strategies – I will receive instruction on effective tutoring methods, study skills development, and strategies for assisting students in different subject areas, ensuring I can provide meaningful academic support.
Behavior Management and Classroom Control Training – I will be trained on how to maintain discipline in study hall, address behavioral challenges, and create a focused learning environment without disrupting students’ academic progress.
Training Literature Reviews and Policy Understanding – I will review key literature, manuals, and policy documents provided by the school to better understand the expectations of my role, learning support strategies, and student behavior policies.
Observation and Performance Evaluations – My supervisor will periodically observe my interactions with students and provide constructive feedback to enhance my instructional approach and classroom management skills.
Reporting and Documentation Training – I will learn how to properly document student progress, write reports, and effectively communicate observations and concerns to my supervisor and faculty members.
Professional Development Workshops (If Available) – If the school offers workshops or training sessions on teaching methodologies, special education strategies, or student engagement techniques, I will attend to further develop my skills.
Technology and Resource Utilization Training – I will be trained on how to use any digital tools, resources, or platforms that the school implements for student learning and academic tracking.
