Behavior Interventionist InternAt — Ready 2 Learn ABA

Opportunity Summary

Ready 2 Learn ABA was established in 2022. Our co-founders are both Board Certified Behavior Analysts. Our organization provides behavioral services to children with a diagnosis of ASD, between the ages of 1 and 8. We work to improve the quality of life for our early learners by working on decreasing behaviors that interfere with learning and increasing adaptive, communication, social, and play skills. Our services use a progressive approach that is tailored for each child, ensuring that they receive the best possible level of care.

Services include:

Comprehensive ABA

Comprehensive ABA is an intensive treatment model that focuses on multiple areas of functioning including cognitive, communicative, social, emotional, adaptive, and maladaptive behaviors. Treatment is typically given in a direct 1:1 format and applied across multiple settings. Intensity levels of weekly services may include up to 30 – 40 hours per week to see positive outcomes in those targeted skill areas.

Focused ABA

Focused ABA treatment addresses a narrower set of skill targets specific to a client’s goals and applied across multiple settings and people. The intensity of services can range from 10 – 25 hours per week to see positive outcomes in those specific skill areas.

Supervision

Supervision is provided by one of our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) for all direct intervention services provided by BCBAs, Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT), and Behavior Interventionists. Our BCBA's provide parent education and program development. Additionally, our team prioritizes collaboration across the child's school, service providers, and members of the child's treatment team.

- Create a reinforcer hierarchy by level of engagement of the child with the activity.
- Take written \\ABC\\ data on behaviors that occur in the moment to identify antecedents, behaviors, and consequences that maintain the behavior.
- Create a hierarchy of \\triggers\\ that lead to low, medium, and high levels of frustrations for an individual.
- Create a session plan, including programs to implement, skill and behavior targets for each program, type of teaching method (DTT, NET, etc.), materials to use for each program, and potential reinforcement to use.
- Choose a relevant interfering behavior for a client and create a simple intervention plan including proactive and reactive strategies.

Training:

Upon hire, all employees and interns, regardless of their previous experience or education will be required to complete R2L’s formal training process and thus are trainees. Initial training is approximately four weeks and includes hands-on supervised training with clients as well as a series of didactics on foundational principles of ABA and DTT. Didactic training will occur weekly to cover a topic, and observations and hands-on training will occur throughout the rest of the week with clients under the supervision of a mentor. Feedback will be given in the moment as well as through module handouts. All employees will train with a series of modules to track the progress of individual skills which are required before being responsible for their own sessions with clients. Modules will break down the skill into component parts which the intern will practice. A mentor will assess and record your progress in each area and will give verbal feedback along with the written feedback on a daily basis. The intern will move through each module at the pace that they are able to perform each skill across 2 days with 2 different mentors.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to,
1) Assess and identify behaviors that interfere with learning for autistic individuals; 2) Assess and identify skill deficits for autistic individuals; 3) Implement strategies that will reduce behaviors that interfere with learning and teach replacement behaviors; 4) Implement strategies that will increase learning readiness behaviors; 5) Use a variety of teaching methods to teach new skills to autistic individuals.
