Hospice InternAt — Geiss Med Hospice
Student interns play an important role in supporting our team by handling tasks that help ensure the highest quality care for our patients and their families. Their responsibilities include some administrative duties, maintaining surveys, and collaborating with team members to enhance our programs. Throughout their internship, students will have access to ongoing training and learning opportunities to further their professional development.

Tasks:
\n
+ Preparing hospice admission binders/ consent folders and auditing to check for completion
+ Upkeep of surveys (making calls to complete surveys and recording the results of outreach)
+ Provide support to Bereavement Coordinator or We Honor Veterans care consultant by assisting with outreach and upkeep of records
+ Assist with individual projects and research as needed
+ Assist with upkeep of Emergency Triage Binders
+ Assist with IDG (Team) meetings preparation - printing and organizing paperwork for nurses
+ Opportunity to join meetings (IDG meetings, regular check-ins with Volunteer Coordinator)
+ Preparing and sending Bereavement letters to appropriate family members

Training:
\n
- All student Interns will undergo an educational orientation outlining the following: Introduction to Hospice, \\Why hospice,\\ Volunteer services program, Infection control, Safety, Preventing and managing accidents, HIPAA, The Death and Dying experience, Depression and Dying, Boundaries, Protecting patient's rights, Effective communication and Ethics, Hospice and Elder Abuse, Sexual Harassment, Hospice and Spiritual Care, Grief and Loss, We Honor Veterans program, and our Bereavement program

Learning Outcome:

Students will:
- Improve their communication skills (verbal and written)
- Gain an understanding of how healthcare administration may look and best practices to follow
- Understand how effective communication, collaboration, and documentation is necessary to carry out proper care in hospice
- Develop practical transferrable skills (attention to detail, practicing initiative, organization, computer skills/ navigation)
