Opportunity Summary 

Assist the museum staff at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum with registration and exhibit related tasks. 

Tasks:

Job shadowing the museum registrar, curator, and exhibit specialist. Assisting staff with mandatory inventory requirements. Assisting the registrar and museum specialist in mount making decisions and techniques. Daily gallery walk throughs and troubleshooting when needed. Reading several books about museum careers.

Training:

Provide onboarding sessions to learn about museum registration methods with the registrar. Prepare Tier 2 cataloging data training for mandatory inventory objects and rehousing. Discuss methods for museum object proper mounting techniques. Provide gallery show system training for basic troubleshooting. Provide the book, Museum Registration Methods, Sixth Edition.

Learning Outcome:

Ensure the integrity, comprehensiveness and longevity of artifact collection records and the stories they can tell. Understand the three tiers of artifact cataloging. Understand the three tiers of artifact cataloging. Troubleshoot the permanent gallery's show system with over 30 interactives and theaters. Understand the basics of the museum registrar position.
