California State Assembly InternAt — Office of Assemblyman Carl DeMaio
This is a voluntary, unpaid position, but the professional experience you will gain is invaluable. Interns are expected to commit 10-12 hours per week, with the possibility of continued involvement based on performance and availability. This role offers the opportunity to directly engage with community members, assist in organizing events, support constituent services, conduct research, and contribute to communications efforts, providing you with hands-on experience in the legislative process and local government operations.
By the end of the internship, students will gain valuable skills in constituent services, learning how to assist community members and navigate state services. They will also gain experience in event planning, research, and policy analysis, while strengthening their communication skills. Additionally, students will gain insight into local government operations and the legislative process, while building a network of professional connections that can support future career opportunities in public service or related fields.
As a district intern in the California State Assembly, students will first go through an orientation to familiarize themselves with the district office, their roles, and the Assemblymember’s priorities. They will also be required to complete mandatory online classes that all new state Assembly employees must take. In addition to this, they will receive hands-on training in constituent services, communication skills, and event coordination to effectively assist in the district office’s day-to-day operations.
