Position purpose

The Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society (SSVMS) is seeking a Social Media Intern. The successful candidate will create introductory videos for SSVMS community programs; identify and create content for various social media channels, including TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn; and perform other tasks as assigned. The position functions within a small, self-directed office.

 

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with and understanding of iPhone filming/photography and basic video/photo editing software.
  • Interest in medical history.
  • IT fluency, including basic knowledge of computers and relational databases; must have a willingness to jump in and learn new software programs as necessary.

Tasks:

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

The following is only a summary of the typical functions of the job, not an exhaustive or comprehensive list of all possible job responsibilities, tasks, and duties.

 

Content Planning (25%): Planning introductory videos and social media content for SSVMS community programs, with a particular focus on TikTok.
Video Editing (20%): Filming and editing content for introductory videos and/or social media.
Events (10-15%): Attending SSVMS and community events for social media videos/photos and assisting as needed.
Artifact Research (10%): Learning about artifacts in the Museum of Medical History to feature them in social media videos/posts.
Best Practices/Professional Development (5-10%): Learning social media best practices and chronicling them for SSVMS reference.
Other Projects as Assigned (25%): Assisting in other SSVMS projects as needed.

Training:

The Social Media Intern will be provided with a one-hour orientation at the beginning of the internship, then have weekly one-on-one meetings with the Communication and Partnerships Manager. The Manager will also provided directed feedback at the conclusion of each task, as well as guidance during tasks as necessary.

Learning Outcome:

Plan and produce engaging multimedia content by applying video filming and editing techniques to support SSVMS community programs across TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

Demonstrate professional communication and collaboration skills by contributing effectively to a small team and coordinating with staff on project goals and deadlines.

Apply research and storytelling techniques to highlight medical artifacts from the Museum of Medical History in educational and entertaining ways.

Develop a working knowledge of social media best practices and content strategies.
