Opportunity Summary 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The OCIE SBDC Lead Center seeks detail-oriented self-starters who are willing and able to take ownership of assigned projects to support its network-wide marketing efforts. This includes — but is not limited to — written and visual content creation, website updates/additions, and event photography/videography. Juniors, seniors, and graduate students are encouraged to apply.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Generate content for network social media efforts, including organic posts and paid campaigns, as well as written content for the network blog.
  • Create a variety of print and digital projects including event flyers, digital and print advertisements, signage, handouts, and promotional materials. Work within existing templates and be comfortable with original design work.
  • Edit web content using WordPress and occasionally HTML/CSS source code, checking content for web accessibility standards and correcting errors.
  • Support the development and maintenance of the new OCIE SBDC website, including but not limited to content creation, SEO, and UX/UI.
  • Ensure all service center locations comply with Small Business Administration (SBA) and OCIE SBDC marketing guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to understand and apply current trends in marketing, communications, social media, and website development and maintenance.
  • Thorough working knowledge of social media platforms, surveys, and online advertising mediums.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud (particularly Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator).
  • Exceptional written communication skills, including demonstrated knowledge of grammar and AP Style.
  • Proficient with WordPress or similar web content management platform.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Ability to follow direction and adhere to brand style guidelines.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and provide creative solutions to obstacles.
  • Ability to think critically, problem-solve, and work independently.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior experience working with the small business community.
  • Knowledge of HTML markup and proper use of semantic tags to organize HTML pages.
  • Knowledge of CSS and ability to use existing CSS files to modify page appearance.
  • Basic familiarity with JavaScript to avoid breaking any existing code while editing HTML elements.
  • Limited working proficiency to professional working proficiency — Spanish.

EDUCATION:

  • Must be a matriculated CSUF student in good academic standing.
  • Field of study in marketing, communications, journalism, advertising, graphic and interactive design, computer science, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

ORGANIZATION SUMMARY:

Hosted by Cal State Fullerton’s College of Business and Economics, the Orange County Inland Empire Small Business Development Center Network (OCIE SBDC) is a federal program funded, in part, by the U.S. Small Business Administration and the California Office of the Small Business Advocate. The OCIE SBDC provides no-cost technical assistance to entrepreneurs and small business owners in Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties.
