H.I.R.E. InternAt — Hub for Integration, Reentry & Employment (H.I.R.E.)

Opportunity Summary 

The primary role of the Intern is to gain and understanding of reentry in Orange County by assisting H.I.R.E. with direct service programming with clients and administrative tasks such as newsletters, social media campaigns, outreach, fundraising and participating in stakeholder meetings. The position will be remote/hybrid.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following are the primary responsibilities of this position (other duties may be assigned as necessary):

 

Operations (20%)

Read assigned book(s) and create/deliver final internship presentation
Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings; take and file meeting minutes
Update and organize organization trackers and/or database
Take meeting/event attendance and minutes at meetings; update partner lists and distribute/file minutes appropriately
Assist with creation and updating of H.I.R.E. documents (e.g., Policies & Procedures, contracts, applications, agreements)

Marketing & Outreach (30%)

Update flyers or other outreach materials as needed
Gather, develop and send material for community newsletters and meeting updates/follow ups
Use MailChimp and Canva to design newsletters and/or other outreach materials
Create and plan social media posts including client and board member highlights, upcoming meetings and events, and stats/information using Canva

Fund Development (10%)

Create and lead organization fundraiser; Assist with organizing organization fundraisers (e.g., Giving Day)
Learn about grant writing; research grant opportunities

Programming: (40%)

Attend internal and external stakeholder meetings to learn about H.I.R.E. and overall reentry in Orange County (virtual and in-person)
Attend client workshops and/or other client related events/meetings
Learn about T.I.M.E. Mentorship, T.I.M.E. Volunteering and Jobs Not Jails programs
Interview TIME mentor and H.I.R.E. clients to create success stories
Assist Volunteer Coordinator with recruiting and organizing volunteers for events
Assist with coordination of any H.I.R.E. related events (e.g., Resource Fair, Youth Fair, film screenings etc.)
Research community resources for clients; update resources tracker
Shadow staff (Case Managers, Intake Coordinator, Job Developer, etc.) working with clients (when appropriate)

Any other duties as assigned or pertinent to the Program as assigned by H.I.R.E. Director of Programs.

 Training:

Intern will meet with various staff across departments to learn and be trained on tasks and software/programs used.
Intern will have 1:1 support weekly with the Director of Programs to track progress and address any challenges or concerns.
Intern will receive training on – Helping People Change and Providing Trauma Informed Care, and Providing Trauma-Informed Care for Staff and Participants

Learning Outcome:

To learn and develop professional and administrative and communication skills by assisting with administrative projects, calling donors, entering data and other special projects. Attend staff and community meetings and assist with taking notes and meeting minutes.

To learn and develop marketing and outreach skills by creating newsletters and social media posts.

Learn about grant writing and fundraising for a non-profit organization and develop a fundraising concept/idea.

To learn and develop skills working with the formerly incarcerated population through motivational interviewing, and trauma informed care training. Learn about job development and out mentor program.
working skills in a non-profit organization from effective communication, using Outlook, taking meeting minutes
