The Gemma Project
The Gemma Project provides, and promotes the national creation of gender responsive jail and prison reentry programming that serves justice-involved women with integrity and compassion. We advocate for policy change focused on what works to reduce recidivism, break the intergenerational cycle of incarceration, and create healthier communities.
There is some work required within the detention facility. Interns will be supervised by a staff member in all group settings, but may meet individually with participants to coordinate Wellness & Reentry plans. There are always safety and security measures in place include panic button and all spaces in which services are provided are monitored by cameras. The jail environment can be a challenging place to work due to general sights, sounds, and smells and some students may find it challenging to work with correctional officers.
