1. Attend all briefing sessions.
2. Spend a day with the chief correspondent to orient yourself around covering the UN.
3. Attend a weekly briefing session.
4. Attend the midday press briefing at the United Nations.
5. Attend sessions that are relevant to their chosen topic for features.
6. Build a contact base, adding at least 5 good contacts each week.
Training:
1. General orientation by both editorial coordinator and chief UN correspondent.
2. Weekly feedback session on stories submitted.
3. Briefing session on in-depth features, looking at sources, research, and identifying suitable interviewees.
4. Job shadowing of the chief correspondent.
Learning Outcome:
1. Draw up a day-to-day and long-term diary for coverage of selected beats at the United Nations.
2. Identify sources and write a profile article of a prominent person at the United Nations.
3. Write a feature story that is multi-sourced.
4. Find or take suitable photographs, graphics, and videos for the above features.
