Opportunity Summary 

Intern will perform general social activities with patients. The intern’s primary strengths should be listening to their patient’s views and needs. The intern should use an active, social approach when working with their patients, be motivated to make an impact and have a desire to help the staff, patients and their families.

Tasks:

Tasks will range from direct patient care to administrative duties. All assigned positions require training and supervision, both in-person and written documentation with oversight. Duties may include basic data entry, direct patient care, assisting staff at the hospice unit, making check-in calls for patients and their families, learn office dynamics and assisting in filing, special events, proper documentation, and making condolence calls, and Interacting with our hospice patients.

Training:

Training for students include general orientation, role of the patient care volunteer, administrative support/training, policies and procedures, including training for each assigned duty.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to become a good listener, know the importance of being reliable, independent, have good written and oral communication, and be a team player. The student will learn policies, procedures, and learn the importance of being empathetic and appreciating diversity.
