Community Mental Health Worker InternAt — Moving Forward Psychological Institute, INC
The Community Mental Health Worker Intern (CMHWI) will work closely with the Executive team to support organizing and promoting events/ activities that increase mental health awareness, coalition/ community building, and administrative activities.
A CMHWI will be accountable for the following:
• Supports overall agency’s mission by assisting with but not limited to:
o Program coordination and event management for agency-related programs and
fundraising activities
o Case management of 1 or more clients in housing navigation or tenancy per the regular duties of a Community Mental Health Worker Apprentice.
o Scheduling meetings, taking meeting minutes, preparing meeting agendas, and internal and external communication
o Marketing and Communication - Posting events and programs on social media (includes but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn) as well as supporting website maintenance.
o Oversees timesheet organization and communication to staff/ volunteers of deadlines as well as provides backup payroll support as needed.
o Grant writing and monthly activities reports.
o Organize and participate in community events/ activities
o Participate and/or lead workshop, presentation,
• Supports Human Resources by assisting with but not limited to:
o Writing and updating the employee policy and supporting management of employee and volunteers’ documents.
o initial onboarding of new staff/ volunteers.
o Oversees the training system and deadlines for all agency staff and volunteers.
o Manages job postings for open positions.
Administrative duties such as:
• Screens general office communication by monitoring general email inbox, answering office phone line and text messages to route to appropriate staff member or volunteer, and overseeing incoming/outgoing mail.
• Tracks general office supplies and office equipment for re-ordering and oversees equipment check in/out process. Oversees the cleaning schedule for assigned location.
• Manages agency’s cloud/server folders which may include scanning documents and organizing them in the correct folders.
• Manages the process of assembling and mailing out annual reports and designing quarterly newsletters.
• Greets visitors as front desk staff and connects visitors to appropriate staff.
• Attend all training required for the Community Mental Health Worker Apprenticeship Program
• All other administrative duties as assigned.
Tasks
The student will demonstrate the learning outcomes by:
1. being present at the worksite during their assigned hours sufficient to perform their assigned duties.
2. provide regular written reflections and supervisor discussion notes after shadowing staff and at least weekly.
3. complete case management tasks and event coordination tasks each between 30 - 50% of their time (total between 60-100% of their time) based on available work and schedule.
4. drafting a rubric for their learning leadership project opportunity, making the portfolio item, and having their portfolio item graded to that rubric.
5. complete administrative tasks for no more than 20% of their time.
Training
To help the intern achieve the proposed learning outcomes, MFPI will:
1. onboard the interns with a complete employee training on HIPAA, harassment, and other mandatory trainings.
2. regularly (1hour/week min.) have interns meet with their supervisor for formative feedback.
3. provide interns ongoing professional development workshops, certificates, and other opportunities as made available to apprentices.
4. provide interns with a learning leadership project opportunity sufficient to demonstrate student competency via portfolio item.
5. provide summative feedback after final assessment and linkage to next career goal steps.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the internship, the student will be able to:
1. perform the duties of a Community Mental Health Worker sufficient to achieve the broad goals of an organization's mission and vision.
2. perform the duties of a case manager (Housing Navigator) sufficient to manage a small caseload.
3. perform the duties of an event coordinator sufficient to meet the ONET standards for community educational.
4. utilize a variety of soft skills to perform the above duties sufficient to helping their clients avoid crises and move forward.
5. demonstrate the administrative capabilities necessary for regular office work.
