Opportunity Summary 

Fiscal Operations Intern within the Health and Human Services Agency, in Tulare County to reconcile healthcare visits to claim data, complete financial analysis, identify revenue trends, develop key performance indicators, and present findings.

Tasks:

1. The student will be able to work with large financial data sets in Excel and use pivot tables and Excel data models to analyze data.
2. The intern will demonstrate their learning outcomes by reconciling two state claim logs and identifying the top 3 revenue trends.
3. The intern will demonstrate their learning outcomes by successfully developing recommendations for the organization that includes a minimum of 5 key performance indicators.
4. The intern will demonstrate their learning outcomes by successfully presenting recommendations for the organization and answering presentation questions.

Training:

1. To help the intern achieve the proposed learning outcomes, I will provide the intern with up to 5 hours of one-on-one training on creating pivot tables and data models to help analyze data.
2. To help the intern achieve the proposed learning outcomes, I will provide instructions and weekly mentoring to ensure interns understand the process and be available to answer questions as issues arise.
3. To help the intern achieve the proposed learning outcomes, I will meet with the intern weekly and provide them with context on the organization, describe some of the challenges we have faced, and some of the key performance indicators we have tracked in the past.
4. To help the intern achieve the proposed learning outcomes, I will provide the student with mentorship and suggestions on presenting data clearly to ensure effective communication with others.

Learning Outcome:

1. By the end of the internship, the student will be able to work with large financial data sets in Excel and use pivot tables and Excel data models to analyze data.
2. By the end of the internship, the student will be able to reconcile claim data and identify payment and denial trends.
3. By the end of the internship, the student will be able to reconcile claim data and identify payment and denial trends.
4. By the end of the internship, the student will be able to present their recommendations to improve operations.
