Community Engagement InternAt — THE Breast Cancer Fundraiser

THE Breast Cancer Fundraiser is seeking a passionate and proactive intern to support our mission of providing tangible care to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients. This 10–15 hour/week summer internship offers hands-on nonprofit experience in program coordination and community engagement.
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting with the preparation and mailing of WeCare Packages
- Communicating with donors, volunteers, community partners, and board of directors
- Supporting social media content and outreach
- Helping coordinate in-kind donations and event logistics
Ideal for students interested in nonprofit work, health advocacy, or event and marketing coordination.
Duties will include:
- Assisting with the building and distribution of WeCare Packages to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients, supporting wellness and quality-of-life needs.
-Communicating with volunteers, donors, and community members to coordinate outreach and program logistics, with attention to empathy, cultural awareness, and health literacy.
-Contributing to the development and distribution of a patient feedback-focused survey and social media content that translates public health information into accessible, audience-appropriate formats.
-Supporting internal data collection and assessment efforts to help identify community needs and evaluate the impact of care delivery.
-Participating in weekly mentor meetings to contextualize assigned tasks within public health frameworks, program design, and community engagement.
Training:
Training will include a general student orientation at the start of the placement, weekly scheduled one-on-one mentor meetings, and ongoing follow-up training as needed based on the student’s assigned responsibilities. Additional support will be provided to ensure the student understands the context and purpose of their tasks within the broader mission of supporting breast cancer patients.
Learning Outcome:
1. Support breast cancer health promotion efforts by assisting in the preparation and distribution of WeCare Packages, which provide tangible wellness resources to newly diagnosed patients.
2. Apply public health concepts in a real-world setting by contributing to programs and initiatives that promote health equity and improve quality of life for breast cancer patients.
3. Evaluate the community-level impact of nonprofit breast cancer interventions by gathering and reflecting on feedback from patients, volunteers, and health-focused partners.
