Maternal Wellness InternAt — Spark Mamas, LLC

Opportunity Summary 

Intern will work under the direction of a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and cofounder of Spark Mamas, LLC. Intern will become familiar with maternal mental health needs, community resources and be equipped with skills for education, and advocacy. The intern will assist with administrative, creative, and educational support tasks that contribute to the overall mission of Spark Mamas. This internship is designed to expose students to the field of marriage and family therapy and applied psychology concepts in a professional wellness environment.

Tasks:

The intern will:
- Assist in drafting articles, newsletters, and social media content related to maternal mental health
- Help develop, edit, and organize educational materials, workshop presentations
- Conduct research on topics such as postpartum mental health, equitable caregiving, or family systems theory
- Provide general administrative support (e.g., website support, managing workshop sign-ups, preparing resources)
- Observe and support live psychoeducational workshops and, if interested, observe individual therapy sessions
- Attend mentorship and supervision meetings to reflect on learning and skill development
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical conduct of industry standards

Training:

The intern will receive an initial orientation including:
- Overview of Spark Mamas’ mission, core values, and population served
- HIPAA, confidentiality, and professional boundaries related to running a mental health practice.
- Introduction to foundational concepts in maternal mental health and psychotherapy

Ongoing support will include:
- Weekly check-ins with the supervisor for task planning, questions, and mentorship
- Regular feedback and collaborative review of written or workshop materials
- Option to shadow psychotherapy sessions
- Exposure to relevant readings, videos, and evidence-based frameworks
- Support with at least one Spark Mamas, LLC workshops / education event

Learning Outcome:

1. Demonstrate a working knowledge of maternal mental health issues, including perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.

2. Describe clinical concepts related to attachment, trauma and family systems; as well as their treatments including psychotherapy and psychopharmacology, support groups and other support resources (such as Spark Mamas, LLC).

3.Apply basic research and writing skills to support psychoeducational content development, such as grant writing, social media posts, Spark Mamas, LLC resource guides, etc.

4. Assist in the preparation and delivery of mental health and wellness workshops.

5. Gain insight into the administrative and operational structure of a private mental health practice and LLC.
