Opportunity Summary 

Under general supervision, supervises and cares for detainees in detention and/or treatment facilities of the Riverside County Probation Department; performs other related duties as required.

Probation Corrections Officers are defined as peace officers in Section 830.5 of the California Penal Code and are subject to selection and training standards as defined by the California Government Code and the Board of State and Community Corrections.

The Probation Corrections Officer II is the journey level classification in the Probation Corrections Officer series and typically reports to an appropriate supervisory or manager level position. Incumbents are expected to counsel and guide detainees residing in a detention or treatment environment. Incumbents are typically assigned the more difficult and complex counseling duties which require an understanding of those factors affecting a detainee’s motivation and behavior. Incumbents may be expected to act in a lead capacity over the operation of a living unit in the absence of the Supervising Probation Officer, Supervising Probation Corrections Officer, or Senior Probation Corrections Officer, and they may be called upon to assist with assignments that require specialized training such as intake/release, transportation, court holding, and central control.

Training:

The interns training will include monthly one on ones with his supervisor. Daily feedback question and answer briefings with his Senior staff.
Annual training is specialized training that develops and enhances job-related skills. These trainings include: PC832, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Program, Defensive Tactics, Information Security, Aerosol Transmissible Diseases / Bloodborne Pathogens, Occupational Safety and Workplace Violence, Annual Suicide Prevention, and pepper spray training.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the internship, the student will be able to conduct search and seizures in a lawful and effective manner. Intern will be able to effectively supervise and counsel youth utilizing deescalating skills and enforcing safety and security measures. Intern will be knowledgeable of county law updates and departmental policy and procedures. The intern will be able to speak and write clear and concise incident reports.
