Software Development Engineer InternAt — City Rx Pharmacy
As a Software Development Engineer Intern at City RX Pharmacy, you will contribute to the development, maintenance, and enhancement of internal software systems, the company’s mobile application, and its public-facing website. Your work will play a key role in strengthening the pharmacy’s digital infrastructure, supporting operational efficiency, and ensuring a seamless and user-friendly experience for both customers and staff.
Tasks:
Interns will work on a variety of tasks including developing and maintaining internal software tools used for pharmacy operations, enhancing features and functionality of the company’s mobile application and website, and integrating APIs for services such as prescription management and insurance verification. Additional responsibilities include writing and optimizing SQL queries, performing code reviews and debugging, creating technical documentation, and collaborating with pharmacy and administrative staff to gather requirements and deliver user-focused solutions. Interns may also assist in ensuring data security and HIPAA compliance throughout all digital systems.
The intern will receive structured, mentored training and will contribute to ongoing software development projects, including:
- Writing and testing real application code for our pharmacy website and delivery app
- Assisting in debugging and improving the performance of existing features
- Collaborating with the team on new feature implementation
- Participating in regular code reviews, development meetings, and discussions about modern frameworks and best practices
Training:
During the placement, students will begin with a mandatory general orientation to familiarize themselves with City RX Pharmacy’s operations, policies, and digital systems. They will receive hands-on training through job shadowing and guided walkthroughs of existing software infrastructure. Weekly one-on-one mentor meetings will provide personalized guidance, performance feedback, and technical support. Interns will be given contextual overviews of assigned projects, access to code repositories, sample documentation, and relevant technical literature. As needed, they may also participate in skills workshops and testing environments to reinforce learning and ensure effective application of development best practices in a real-world healthcare setting.
Learning Outcomes:
During their internship at City RX Pharmacy, the Software Development Engineer Intern will gain hands-on experience in designing and developing internal tools to streamline pharmacy operations, integrating APIs for e-prescription and insurance verification, and managing relational databases for inventory and patient records. This experience will strengthen their skills in full-stack development, debugging, system integration, and professional communication in a healthcare business environment.
