Opportunity Summary
The Community Engagement & Health Navigation Intern will support AASCSC’s mission to promote health equity, cultural inclusion, and access to services for diverse Asian American communities and other underserved populations. The intern will assist with outreach, health navigation, administrative support, and community programming tailored to the needs of older adults, children, youth, and families.
Bilingual skills are highly valued, with priority given to Asian languages such as Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Korean, and Tagalog. Proficiency in Spanish is also welcome to better serve the local Hispanic community.
Responsibilities
- Assist with case management and health navigation tasks for clients of all ages, including older adults, children, youth, and families
- Support outreach efforts to engage underserved Asian American and Hispanic community members in Santa Ana and surrounding areas
- Help prepare and facilitate community workshops, health fairs, and educational events for intergenerational audiences
- Translate materials and assist with verbal interpretation (especially in Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Korean, Tagalog, or Spanish)
- Maintain accurate and confidential records, including data entry into client databases
- Support program evaluation by collecting surveys and feedback from participants
- Shadow and assist staff during client intakes, program delivery, or partnership meetings
- Create culturally appropriate outreach materials and assist with digital engagement
- Contribute to program planning and brainstorming for ongoing service improvements
Training
- Orientation to AASCSC’s mission, programs, and protocols
- HIPAA and client confidentiality basics
- Health and social service navigation overview
- Cross-cultural sensitivity and language access training
- Guidance on program tools (e.g., intake forms, databases)
- Training in outreach methods and event support
- Ongoing supervision and mentorship
