Opportunity Summary
This academic internship gives students the chance to work directly on live coverage and storytelling for Novastar Basketball. Interns will gain on-camera experience, develop writing and editing skills, and contribute content for Novastar’s blog, social media, and other platforms.
Novastar Basketball Basketball offers a structured academic internship that integrates classroom knowledge with direct experience in a professional sports organization. Interns will gain industry-relevant skills in sports management, marketing, statistics, media production, and operations under professional supervision.
Tasks:
- Build a portfolio of work samples (e.g., stats reports, social media content, videos)
- Apply classroom knowledge in marketing, data analytics, or media production
- Gain real-world experience in professional sports
- Maintain a professional presence on the sideline and represent Novastar Basketball in a manner that aligns with our media values.
- Adhere to ethical journalism practices, including fact-checking, source confirmation, and impartial coverage.
- Edit transcripts and video/audio recordings for clarity, engagement, and compliance with league standards.
- Attend team meetings and practices (when permitted) to gather context and background for reporting.
- Collaborate with the media team to ensure consistent tone, brand voice, and factual accuracy.
- Assist in scripting and presenting sideline commentary or voiceovers for social media content.
- Write and submit timely post-game summaries, news briefs, and feature stories for publication on Novastar Basketball platforms.
- Conduct on-camera interviews during games and events with professionalism and journalistic integrity.
- Research and prepare interview questions for players, coaches, and staff based on current game and season narratives.
Training:
- All interns receive onboarding on team culture, ABA context, and safety procedures
- Weekly 1-on-1 mentor meetings for coaching and development
- Guidance in applying classroom knowledge to real-world tasks
- Shadowing opportunities and digital skills workshops
- Task Training: Walkthroughs and shadowing for assigned duties
- Supplemental Learning: Access to team planning meetings, recorded game footage, and media content creation tools
Learning Outcomes:
