Christmas Bird Count Assistant - Monterey Audubon Society (MAS)At — Monterey Audubon Society (MAS)
The National Audubon Society has been hosting the Annual Christmas Bird Count for 125 years! In the Monterey Area, we have 5 "circles," or designated areas for counting. Each circle has a 15-mile diameter and is broken up into territories.
Teams of people are recruited to help with the count, and many count the same territory for more than a decade. The Monterey Peninsula circle is looking for help organizing and "modernizing" some of our materials.
1 Service Learner Spot
This position will work with the ED and our local data compiler to help modernize this effort by creating digital maps of the territories. The Monterey Peninsula CBC takes place on Dec. 27, 2025. You do not need to be available for this date (unless you want to).
Position is primarly remote, but there is potential for meetings in Marina, Seaside, Monterey, Pacific Grove, and Carmel.
Initial meetings will be held with the MAS Executive Director and Rita Carratello, our data compiler for the Monterey Peninsula CBC. Samples with be provided of the information we are looking for and the student will be provided any relevant information to be successful.
Opportunity Supervision
Student will meet virtually with the ED every 1-2 weeks during the project to check in.
