Heavy-Duty Diesel Strategies- Student Assistant (Fall25)At — California Air Resources Board
The Student Assistant will report to the Riverside office one day per week and telecommute for the remainder of hours each week. This is a part-time position.
This position is within the Heavy-Duty Diesel Strategies Implementation Branch of the California Air Resources Board Mobile Source Control Division. The Student Assistant will play an important role in expanding California's heavy-duty inspection/maintenance (I/M) program to ensure heavy-duty vehicles continue to operate in the field with low criteria-pollutant emission levels. This heavy-duty I/M program, now called Clean Truck Check, is similar to California's light-duty smog check program, but for heavy-duty trucks.
Tasks:
The Student Assistant will play an important role in expanding California's heavy-duty inspection/maintenance (I/M) program to ensure heavy-duty vehicles continue to operate in the field with low criteria-pollutant emission levels. Responsibilities associated with this position will include but are not limited to assisting in coordination of archiving emails and organizing inbox content, writing automation scripts to streamline repetitive tasks, and working with the Microsoft Graph API library to support the newer version of Outlook.
Training:
The Student Assistant will be assigned a mentor to ensure they are familiar with Clean Truck Check requirements. The student will shadow and be shadowed when responding to stakeholder inquiries and will be provided in-the-moment feedback. Initial orientation will cover workplace practices and any administrative requirements.
Learning Outcomes:
- By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to write scripts, streamline processes, respond to stakeholders inquiring about regulatory requirements, and mine and analyze large sets of data.
- By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to assist in coordination of archiving emails and organizing inbox content, write automation scripts to streamline repetitive tasks, and work with the Microsoft Graph API library to support the newer version of Outlook.
