Opportunity Summary

At the TGR Foundation, A Tiger Woods Charity, we believe in college access for underserved youth.

The flagship TGR Learning Lab was launched in Anaheim, California, in February 2006. Since its inception, the 35,000 square-foot education facility has reached students through its hands-on classes -- ranging from forensic science and aerospace to robotics, biotechnology, video production and graphic design.

Everything at the TGR Learning Lab is about active participation and hands-on learning. Scholars in grades 5-12 experience college-access programs focused on science, technology, engineering and math. Interactive classes allow students to explore a future in almost any career and recognize the importance of attending college. Interns will work directly with youth in a classroom setting and additional duties as assigned. Interns will receive consistent supervision and guidance from supervisor/mentor/staff.

Tasks:

  • Engage youth in a science instructional curriculum.
  • Assist instructors with the facilitation of hands-on learning activities.
  • Integrate technology into science instruction.
  • Deliver content instruction in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math.

Training:

Orientation on policies and procedures prior to start date. Throughout placement hands-on learning, supervision and guidance from supervisor/mentor, one-on-one meetings and evaluation forms.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Strategies for engaging youth in a contained classroom.
  • Techniques for making transitions from one activity to another more efficient.
  • Strategies for integrating technology fluidly into classroom activities.
