Mock Interviewer and Citizenship InternAt — BPSOS - Center for Community Advancement
Interviewer for citizenship mock interviews at Boat People SOS - Center for Community Advancement:
The service-learning student will assist BPSOS in conducting 1-1 mock interviews in English with Vietnamese adult learners at BPSOS offices in Westminster, OC.
The service-learning student will be fully trained on how to conduct face-to-face interviews and be instructed on how to answer questions from students. The service-learning student will not be advising students on how to fill out their naturalization forms, but rather test their ability to answer questions in English about themselves as well as basic US history and civics questions.
Because most students at BPSOS are low-level English learners, the service-learning student should be highly proficient in Vietnamese in order to help students understand the form and the questions being asked during the mock interview.
While mock interviews will be the main focus of the service-learning experience, other tasks can be arranged in agreement between the intern and BPSOS. Such tasks may include:
- Attending and assisting with community outreach events in Orange County;
- Assisting with Citizenship and ESL classes;
- Various front office/reception duties (primarily answering phones and greeting walk- in students)
The service-learning student will work under the supervision of the program manager, and will work closely with program coordinators and office assistants to ensure that the service-learning student is adequately trained and guided in their tasks.
