Opportunity Summary 

HR Assistant provides administrative and operational support to the Human Resources department. Their duties include managing employee records, assisting with recruitment and onboarding, handling employee inquiries, and supporting payroll and benefits administration. They also play a role in ensuring compliance with labor laws and company policies. 

Tasks:

During the internship, the student will perform the following duties:

  • Recruitment Support – Assist in drafting and posting job descriptions, screening resumes, and coordinating interview scheduling.
  • Onboarding Assistance – Prepare onboarding materials, update employee records, and participate in new hire orientation processes.
  • HR Documentation & Data Management – Maintain and organize employee files in accordance with company policies and compliance standards.
  • Employee Engagement Support – Help plan and coordinate employee engagement initiatives and wellness activities.
  • HR Communication – Draft professional correspondence, update internal HR announcements, and respond to basic employee inquiries.
  • Research & Best Practices – Conduct literature and industry best-practice research to support HR process improvements.
  • Shadowing & Observational Learning – Observe HR meetings and decision-making processes to gain insight into strategic HR functions.
  • These duties are designed to give the student practical, pre-professional experience in a variety of HR functions, ensuring they can apply academic knowledge in a professional setting while achieving the outlined learning goals.

Training:

Students will begin their placement with a general employer orientation, covering Cadence’s mission, values, organizational structure, and workplace policies. They will receive an overview of HR processes specific to the company, including recruitment, onboarding, compliance, and employee engagement initiatives.

Throughout the internship, students will participate in weekly one-on-one mentor meetings to review progress, address challenges, and refine skills. They will have opportunities for job shadowing HR staff to observe real-time processes and decision-making, as well as hands-on training in HR software and tools.

To deepen learning, interns will be provided with work samples and task contextualization to understand the “why” behind each assignment. Additional training will include skills workshops in communication, organization, and candidate outreach, along with guided literature reviews to strengthen HR knowledge.

This combination of structured guidance, practical experience, and continuous feedback will equip students to meet the outlined learning goals.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand Core HR Processes – By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to explain and assist in key HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, employee record management, and compliance requirements.
  • Develop Effective Communication Skills – By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to draft professional HR communications, respond to employee inquiries, and participate in meetings with clarity and professionalism.
  • Apply HR Software and Tools – By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to use HR management systems and digital tools to organize employee data, track processes, and support administrative tasks.
  • Support Talent Acquisition Efforts – By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to assist in posting job descriptions, reviewing applications, and coordinating interview logistics.
  • Promote a Positive Company Culture – By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to contribute to initiatives that foster engagement, wellness, and a strong sense of community within Cadence.
