Position Overview – Development Intern

Extraordinary Pictures is seeking a highly motivated Development Intern with a strong interest in storytelling, screenwriting, and creative strategy. This internship is ideal for students or recent graduates eager to gain experience in the creative development process of feature films, television, animation, and digital content.

You will support the team on both current and future projects in various stages of development, with tasks including:

  • Reading and analyzing scripts, books, and pitches across multiple genres

  • Writing professional script coverage and project summaries

  • Assisting in the creation and formatting of pitch decks and lookbooks

  • Conducting creative research for in-development concepts

  • Participating in brainstorms, pitch prep, and select virtual development meetings

  • Assisting in reviewing early project materials (e.g., character designs, tone reels, loglines)

This internship can offer up to the highest number of academic units, including 3 units (equivalent to 121 hours), depending on your institution's requirements.

Ideal Candidate

  • Strong passion for film, television, and story development

  • Interest in producing, screenwriting, or working at a studio, agency, or production company

  • Excellent written communication and storytelling instincts

  • Familiarity with script formatting and industry terms is a plus

  • Ability to give thoughtful, constructive feedback

  • Proficiency in Google Docs/Slides; familiarity with Canva, Final Draft, or similar tools is a bonus

Intern Responsibilities

  • Read and evaluate submitted screenplays, short stories, books, and treatments

  • Write detailed script coverage, including logline, synopsis, and comments

  • Help build and revise visual pitch decks and mood boards

  • Track and organize submissions and development notes

  • Maintain open and consistent communication with the team

  • Log hours and progress in a shared Google Spreadsheet

Training & Support

Interns will receive mentorship and hands-on guidance directly from the director, screenwriter, and producers. All work will be completed remotely through Zoom, Google Meet, and other collaborative platforms.

Note: While this internship is fully remote, any potential on-site production opportunities would be arranged under a separate agreement and include compensation. On-site work is not required for the internship. Academic credit would not be counted for the on-site production opportunity.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the internship, students will have:

  • Gained experience in creative development across film, television, and digital media

  • Strengthened their ability to write professional script coverage

  • Learned how to assemble and present visual development materials (e.g., decks)

  • Developed an eye for story structure, marketability, and character development

  • Received consideration for future roles within Extraordinary Pictures

Location

Remote – All work will be conducted online. A shared Google Spreadsheet will be used to track tasks and hours.
