Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

By the end of the internship at Wylde Horses, students will have gained practical knowledge in equine care, grooming, feeding, and stable management, as well as hands-on experience in therapeutic horsemanship techniques. They will learn how to safely assist participants with varying abilities, develop skills in communication, teamwork, and adaptive instruction, and understand the principles behind equine-assisted therapy and its impact on physical, emotional, and social growth. Interns will also gain insight into nonprofit operations, including program planning, volunteer coordination, and event support. This experience equips students with both technical equine skills and interpersonal skills essential for careers in therapeutic riding, special education, animal-assisted therapy, or nonprofit work

Opportunity Training 

Students will receive comprehensive training to ensure they can safely and effectively assist at Wylde Horses. This includes hands-on instruction in horse care, such as grooming, feeding, and tacking, as well as guidance on stable management and safety procedures. Interns will be trained in therapeutic horsemanship techniques, including side-walking, leading, and supporting participants with varying abilities. They will also learn communication strategies, adaptive instruction methods, and participant safety protocols. Additionally, interns will receive orientation on nonprofit operations, facility policies, and teamwork expectations, preparing them to contribute confidently and responsibly to daily sessions and events. Continuous mentorship from experienced staff ensures that students gain both practical skills and a deep understanding of equine-assisted therapy principles.
