Opportunity Summary 

Under the direction of the Director of Sustainability and Transportation Demand Manager, the Sustainability Outreach & Communications Intern will have an immersive learning experience in promoting campus sustainability, climate action, and social justice initiatives while forming connections with campus partners throughout Cal State Fullerton. This internship will offer the opportunity to learn how to plan and conduct outreach events for October, Campus Sustainability Month, and April, Earth Month, as well as how to prepare social media posts, emails, and presentations in a variety of styles to engage diverse audiences in the higher education community.

Tasks:

  1. Planning and coordinating events and materials for Campus Sustainability Month and Earth Month.
  2. Enhancing verbal and written communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
  3. Thoughtfully and professionally presenting ideas and responding to others' ideas at team meetings.
  4. Confidently proposing, implementing, and measuring the efficacy of outreach and communication efforts to advance campus sustainability initiatives.

Training:

  1. Provide training and background in policies that shape Cal State Fullerton’s sustainability initiatives.
  2. Provide training in protocols for event planning on campus.
  3. Facilitate weekly team meetings to support and guide planning, coordination, and implementation.
  4. Conduct one-on-one meetings to support a positive work and learning environment, and to ensure that professional and academic development goals are being met.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate working knowledge of basic event planning practices and event coordination.
  2. Build relationships with the campus community to promote sustainability throughout campus.
  3. Understand the basics of marketing an event, including how to use social media.
  4. Become an experienced and effective driver of environmental, social, and climate justice initiatives.
  5. Be better equipped to compete in the emerging \\Green Jobs\\ workforce and effectively communicate sustainability and climate goals, challenges, and initiatives.
