Transportation Intern 2025-2026At — CSUF - Administration and Finance

Opportunity Summary 

Transportation, particularly single-occupancy trips in private passenger vehicles, forms the largest part of our carbon footprint. Under the direction of the Director of Sustainability and Transportation Demand Manager, the Transportation Intern will receive background training in CSU Sustainability Policy, California Education Code, and South Coast Air Quality Management District compliance requirements that guide CSUF’s transportation programs before embarking on guided qualitative and quantitative research into student transportation program user experience. This internship provides an immersive learning experience in environmental, social, and climate justice initiatives through the lens of student transportation needs.

Tasks:

1. Explaining how CSU Sustainability Policy, California Ed Code, and AQMD compliance requirements shape CSUF’s transportation programs.
2. Describing the relationships among transportation mode choice and environmental, social, and climate justice.
3. Thoughtfully, confidently, and professionally presenting information and responding to others at team meetings.
4. Confidently present lessons learned during the research process and recommend improvements to CSUF’s student transportation programs.

Training:

1. Provide training and background in factors and policies that shape CSUF’s transportation programs.
2. Facilitate weekly team meetings to support and guide learning and applied research.
3. Conduct one-on-one meetings to support a positive work and learning environment, and to ensure that professional and academic development goals are being met.

Learning Outcome: 

1. Articulate how CSU Sustainability Policy, California Ed Code, and AQMD compliance requirements shape CSUF’s transportation programs.
2. Describe the current and historical factors that influence student transportation mode choice.
3. Evaluate the efficacy of CSUF’s student transportation programs and offer informed recommendations for improvement.
4. Be better equipped to compete in the emerging \\Green Jobs\\ workforce and effectively communicate sustainability and climate goals, challenges, and initiatives.
