Healthy Balance Research Lab

Organization Description

The Healthy Balance Research Lab (HBRL) is directed by Dr. Selena Nguyen-Rodriguez, Professor of Health Science at California State University, Long Beach. HBRL's mission is to support the health and well-being of our underserved community members. Our community-based research focus on energy balance, mental balance and social justice aims to develop intervention methods to provide holistic approaches to prevention of chronic disease. Through these efforts, we hope to contribute to achieving health equity for our very deserving local populations.

Health & Safety

when working in the field, we do interact with children ages 10-12 years old (this is currently not the case due to stage of projects)

While students are not usually directly supervised in their daily activities, all products and task outcomes are reviewed

Hours of operation 

Hours depend on current projects. Work is often completed in the field in the evenings and weekends. Office hours are flexible, administrative duties can usually be on student time, with regular meetings taking place during usual business hours, Monday through Friday, 9am - 5pm.
