MPH InternAt — Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian
Opportunity Summary
Under Hoag's Department of Community Health, the MPH student’s role will include planning, implementing, and evaluating health education/wellness programs for the local community.
Students will have flexibility on topic selection as long as it falls under one of the priority health issues identified through Hoag’s Community Health Needs Assessment.
Tasks:
- Coordinating the reporting requirements for Community Benefit including the Hoag’s Community Health Needs Assessment, Implementation Strategy, and annual Community Benefit report to the California Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI).
- Developing evaluation tools for programs and nonprofit partner grants.
- Data entry
- Crafting annual publications
- Collaboration with Hoag’s Mental Health Center
- Collaboration with local community-based non-profit organizations
- Collaboration with our internal Nurse Navigator team (health education groups/ workshops)
- Plan and participate in Melinda Hoag Smith Center for Health Living community events
- Coordination and scheduling of integrative health classes
- Implementation of nonprofit partner programing within the center
- Participate in food and diaper distributions
Training:
- Mandatory general orientation to learn about our community health center and its programs.
- Weekly one-on-one meetings with preceptor including job shadowing.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand community benefit and the role it plays in non-profit hospital spaces.
- Successfully assess, plan, implement, and evaluate a health education/wellness program for the community.
- Effectively build relationships with partners from various entities that include but are not limited to community-based organizations, local non-profits, school district personnel, and more.
