Behavior TechnicianAt — Wickett Behavioral Solutions

The Behavior technicians (BTs) at Wickett Behavioral Solutions work in the home, school, and community settings with children who may or may not have a developmental or emotional diagnosis. BTs use methods based on the science of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to increase a range of skills, including but not limited to: language, communication, learning-to-learn skills, play skills, social skills, listening skills, self-care skills, independent living skills, and pre-academic skills. In addition, BTs are expected to follow the behavior plans for each individual client in order to decrease challenging behaviors. These plans will include the teaching of positive replacement behaviors, as well as reactive strategies to use when challenging behaviors occur.
BTs are required to take data on all skills targeted, in either a logbook or electronic device, respond to feedback given by a supervisor or director positively and professionally, and demonstrate professionalism and maintain confidentiality at all times. If a BT has an RBT certification, they may be expected to analyze data for the supervisor, assist with reports, train other BTs, and keep programs up-to-date.
BTs will have a supervisor training them and providing ongoing support throughout their employment with Wickett Behavioral Solutions.

Tasks:

Behavior Technician Duties:
- Implement ABA fundamentals to ensure client safety and progress
- Follow individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) as directed by the supervisor
- Teach and reinforce positive replacement behaviors
- Support clients in accordance with their individualized BIPs across home, school, and community settings
- Maintain client dignity and safety during all sessions, especially while addressing challenging behaviors
- Collect objective data on the occurrence of behaviors and interventions used
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to address behavioral challenges and provide feedback about possible solutions

Training:

To facilitate the aforementioned learning outcomes, our Behavior Technicians are provided with comprehensive, paid training in the following areas:
(1) 12-hour paid Safety Care Specialist training conducted in-office by Dr. Cori Wickett (Director). Students/employees are taught physical and mental fundamentals to manage challenging behaviors.
(2) 40-hour paid Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) training conducted in-office by Dr. Wickett. Supervisors sign off on various ABA competencies during clients' sessions that meet Behavioral Analyst Board Certification (BACB) standards. Students/employees are fully prepared to take the RBT Certification exam through the BACB at the conclusion of training.
(3) 3-hour paid Mandated Reporter training, conducted online in accordance with California law.
(4) 1-hour paid Sexual Harassment training, conducted through ADP in accordance with California law.
(5) Client-specific team meetings conducted by supervisors that address program updates, updated interventions, and challenges experienced by team members.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to:
(1) Demonstrate and utilize the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and how they apply to skill acquisition and behavior reduction
(2) Assist in identifying and targeting skills (e.g., communication, play, self-care, pre-academic skills) within a client’s individualized plan
(3) Demonstrate the importance of confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical standards in working with clients and families
(4) Accurately implement skill acquisition programs across home, school, and community settings
(5) Collect and record client data accurately and consistently using logbooks and electronic systems
