Opportunity Summary 

Supporting children’s social and emotional development, assisting during snack and activity times, supervising children closely, and ensuring the 1:14 staff-to-child ratio is consistently maintained.

Tasks:

Assisting with preparing and serving snacks

Leading or supporting group activities and playtime

Helping children with daily routines like handwashing and transitions

Observing and documenting children’s social and emotional behaviors

Supervising children to ensure safety and maintain appropriate ratios

Setting up and cleaning activity areas and toys

Supporting individual children who may need extra attention

Communicating with staff about children’s progress and needs

Participating in team meetings and training sessions

Training:

During the internship at the child care center, the college student will receive comprehensive training designed to prepare them for hands-on work with young children. Training will include learning how to support children’s social and emotional development, assist with daily routines such as snack and activity times, and effectively supervise children while maintaining the required staff-to-child ratios. The student will be guided by experienced staff who will provide practical instruction, ongoing feedback, and opportunities to observe best practices in action. Additionally, the training will cover important safety protocols, center policies, and child care regulations to ensure the student is confident and prepared to contribute positively to the center’s environment. This internship will offer a valuable blend of theoretical knowledge and real-world experience, helping the student build essential skills for a career in early childhood education.
