Lab AnalystAt — MESA International Technologies, Inc.
The intern will demonstrate their learning outcomes by independently being able to:
Tasks:
- Perform routine analyses to confirm mixture quality/specifications and record the results.
- Operate, clean, and perform basic checks on the instrumentation under the supervision of a degreed chemist.
- Prepare and maintain data logs, Certificates of Analysis, and other documentation.
- Safely move and stage compressed gas cylinders and other vessels; maintain a clean, organized workspace.
- Follow all safety protocols (PPE, OSHA guidelines, SOPs).
Training:
After general orientation to the student's function within our manufacturing operations, I will train the student under the immediate supervision of an advanced degreed chemist. Training will consist of:
- Daily observation by the student of current staff members as they analyze complex gas and liquid calibration mixes made by our production teams.
- Train the student how to critically evaluate the analyzed data against the concentration values calculated at the time of manufacturing.
- Read and understand assigned technical literature relevant to the GC and FTIR instrumentation including the operating manuals of each.
- Train and supervise the student as the individual progresses to hands-on work following our existing Work Instructions for each instrument.
Learning Outcomes:
- Operate and do basic troubleshooting of various types of gas chromatographs and related data handling software.
- Operate an FTIR and related data handling software.
- Quantitatively analyze mixtures of liquid and gas samples.
- Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and QA/QC workflow in an industrial lab setting.
*Risk Note:
The student will be instructed how to safely move and stage compressed gas cylinders for laboratory analysis. They will also be trained in the related chemistry and hazards of the cylinder contents. They will be required to follows all safety protocols including OSHA Guidelines, Personal Protective Equipment and company Standard Operating Procedures.
