Tasks:
Undergraduate interns will support the clinic’s daily operations through a combination of administrative and observational tasks designed to enhance their understanding of the healthcare environment. Interns may assist with patient intake procedures, appointment scheduling, and the organization of medical records while ensuring patient confidentiality is maintained. They will have opportunities to observe clinical staff during patient interactions and routine procedures, gaining exposure to best practices in patient care and communication. Interns may also support patient education efforts and help prepare materials. This role provides a hands-on learning experience aimed at building foundational skills in healthcare administration and clinical support.
Training:
Interns will receive structured training to support their learning and development throughout the placement. This includes:
General Orientation: A mandatory initial session introducing clinic policies, safety protocols, confidentiality (e.g., HIPAA), and workplace expectations.
Job Shadowing: Interns will observe healthcare professionals in both administrative and clinical settings to understand day-to-day operations.
Weekly One-on-One Mentorship: Regular scheduled check-ins with a designated supervisor or mentor to discuss progress, provide feedback, and support learning goals.
Task Overview & Skill Development: Clear explanation and contextualization of assigned tasks, with ongoing guidance to ensure skill development and confidence in responsibilities.
Supplemental Training Materials: Access to relevant training literature, sample forms, and resources to deepen understanding of clinical procedures and patient care protocols.
Learning Outcome:
- Develop a foundational understanding of clinical operations, including patient intake, appointment scheduling, and medical documentation.
- Gain exposure to patient communication and professional interaction in a healthcare setting.
