Civilian Oversight Commission InternAt — Los Angeles County Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission
The intern may be responsible for conducting research, review and analysis of various issues associated with the Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission and develop reports with draft recommendations. This position may also involve the development of PowerPoint Presentations and verbal presentations of research materials before staff. Other duties associated with the position may include working with Commission staff by attending meetings and engaging the public.
Tasks:
The intern will complete tasks that consist of (not all inclusive):
-Conduct review, analysis and develop MS-Excel Spreadsheets
-Review/Analyze Deputy-Involved Shootings data for patterns several years
-Develop memo/report with review findings
-Record a presentation of findings
Training:
The intern will receive weekly feedback and attend meetings to review progress and provide mentorship.
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the internship, the student will be able to:
1. Understand the importance of research.
2. Have a general understanding of how law enforcement public safety services impact the community
3. General understanding of oversight of law enforcement
Risk Note:
The intern may go on a tour of a County Jail Facility and/or a Sheriff Station Ride-A-Long. The Jail Facility would potentially have hundreds of incarcerated persons at any given time. The ride-a-long could involve being in a pursuit or going on calls in various communities.
