YouthAbility: Thrift Shop - SW Empl-Based Placement
YouthAbility began offering its training program in 2006 when local foster parent and youth advocate Rose Baker recognized the barriers foster youth faced when attempting to enter the workforce. YouthAbility now offers its program to all youth 16-24 with barriers to employment. Our employees, trainers, and case managers are the heart of YouthAbility's job training and life skills program. We strive to create an atmosphere of structured support, inclusivity, and meaningful connection. Teamwork makes the dream work at YouthAbility. All of our training and programs operate out of our Thrift Shop/ Resource center in Arcata, CA. This 5,000 sq. building houses a busy and well loved retail thrift shop where the trainees get paid to learn hands on retail skills. The back of the building is a resource center where trainees work on life skills and receive one on one support to reach their goals.
Our mission is to offer a multifaceted program which promotes education, training, and self-empowerment for youth and young adults, especially those emancipating out of foster care and/or living on low or poverty level incomes.
