Tasks:

During the internship, students will be engaged in the following professional or pre-professional duties designed to support the achievement of learning outcomes and provide meaningful clinical experience in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA):

Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs):
Under the supervision of a BCBA, students will work directly with clients to implement individualized treatment plans targeting skill acquisition and behavior reduction goals.

Conduct Behavioral Observations:
Observe and record client behavior during therapy sessions using structured data collection systems (e.g., frequency counts, interval recording, ABC data), and identify patterns relevant to behavior change.

Assist in Skill Development Sessions:
Support clients in learning and practicing new skills, including communication, daily living, play, and social skills, using ABA strategies such as prompting, reinforcement, and modeling.

Participate in Team Meetings and Supervision Sessions:
Attend and contribute to regular clinical team meetings, case reviews, and one-on-one supervision with a BCBA to discuss client progress, reflect on ethical considerations, and receive performance feedback.

Training:

To support student learning and ensure the development of clinical and professional competencies, the following training will be provided during the internship:

Initial General Orientation (Mandatory):
All interns will complete a structured orientation during their first week, which includes an overview of the company’s mission, core values, policies, HIPAA and confidentiality standards, and client-centered care expectations.

Foundational ABA Training Modules:
Interns will complete introductory training in Applied Behavior Analysis, including topics such as reinforcement, prompting strategies, behavior reduction techniques, and data collection methods. This may include online modules, readings, and video modeling.

Job Shadowing and Observation:
Interns will begin by shadowing experienced Behavior Technicians and/or BCBAs to observe real-time therapy sessions and data collection procedures before working directly with clients.

Weekly One-on-One Supervision:
Each intern will be assigned a supervisor (typically a BCBA) who will conduct weekly supervision meetings to provide mentorship, discuss client cases, review data, answer questions, and provide feedback.

Hands-On Practice with Feedback:
Interns will gradually begin implementing selected components of intervention plans under close supervision. Direct feedback will be given to support learning and skill development.

Task Analysis and Assignment Overviews:
Interns will receive clear instructions, context, and behavioral objectives for any assigned tasks, with opportunities to ask questions and clarify expectations.

Training Literature and Professional Development Resources:
Access to relevant ABA literature, research articles, and company-provided training manuals to deepen theoretical understanding and link academic learning with practical application.
