Sutter County District Attorneys Office

Organization Description

The District Attorney's office prosecutes on behalf of the people of Sutter County, all individuals, both adult and juvenile, accused of felonies, misdemeanors, and infractions occurring within the County. Additionally, the District Attorney's Office has a unit dedicated to providing services to victims and witnesses of crime called the Victim/Witness Assistance Program. Trained and experienced advocates provide crisis counseling, orientation to the criminal justice system, community referrals, assistance with applying for victim compensation, a support group for family members of homicide victims, and many other services. Assistance and information is available in several different languages.

Program Information

Interns will summarize cases for misdemeanor crimes, assist clerical in keeping track of officer subpoenas, assist in courtroom logistics, attend court and observe investigations, organize files (both physical and virtual.) They will be working directly with clients at an agency for a set number of hours per week during the semester (e.g. tutoring/mentoring students in an after-school program, helping in a homelessshelter, etc.)

Interns need to have a high level off general office software aptitude (MS Office,) and an ability to learn and use our internal case management system. An ability to clearly communicate in written and oral conversation. A mature ability to handle distressing information, like descriptions of violence and sexual assaults against adults and children. Open source and basic legal research or an ability to rapidly learn.
