Interning at a physical therapy clinic is one of the best ways to get exposure to healthcare. You’ll see how treatment plans are created, how therapists problem-solve in real time, and how strong relationships with patients are built. It’s also a great way to figure out if physical therapy is the right path for you. Schools often look for candidates with experience/exposure, and this kind of internship sets you apart because it shows you’ve invested the time to learn in a clinical setting.
How to perform non-patient related tasks around a standard PT clinic, such as: wiping down and cleaning tables, maintaining cleanliness of the facility and gym equipement, assist with washing/drying linen and fostering a welcoming and upbeat environment. Interns will also have to opportunity to observe a DPT/PTA upon approval from the clinician and patient and will have a thorough understanding of the DPT/PTA profession (how treatment plans are created, how DPT/PTAs problem solve and how patient/therapist relationships are built).
