The Society of California Pioneers

Organization Description

Founded in 1850, the Society of California Pioneers is a nonprofit historical organization dedicated to preserving and sharing early California history, including the Gold Rush and the 1906 Earthquake and Fire. Maintained by descendants of those who arrived before 1850, the Society advances public understanding through its archives, library, exhibitions, and educational programs. By encouraging critical engagement with the past, it connects California’s founding stories to contemporary issues, fostering appreciation of history’s ongoing relevance for researchers, students, and the broader community.
