Opportunity Summary 

We’re looking for a Social Media Intern to join the Office of Engagement and Belonging.

As our Social Media Intern, you’ll work closely with our Marketing Specialist to share our work and help build community online. You’ll create photo and video content, write captions, appear on camera, and help drive growth across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok. You’ll also cover live events, schedule posts, and track performance using KPIs like impressions, engagements, and video views.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Understands social media platforms and what performs well on each
  • Writes engaging copy tailored to each channel
  • Brings ideas to the table and takes initiative
  • Is detail-oriented and deadline-driven
  • Is comfortable being on camera and representing our office
  • Uses data to improve content performance

This is a hands-on role where your work will directly support the department’s mission.

Tasks:

Developing and presenting a portfolio of original content created for multiple platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok)

Writing and publishing social media posts aligned with the department's mission

Participating in live event coverage and contributing to real-time content creation

Appearing on camera for selected campaigns and demonstrating on-screen communication skills

Tracking and reporting on performance metrics (impressions, engagements, video views) to evaluate content effectiveness

Actively contributing ideas during team meetings and strategy sessions

Meeting project deadlines and adapting content based on feedback and performance insights

Training:

Provide hands-on training in content creation, copywriting, and social media scheduling tools

Offer regular feedback and one-on-one check-ins to support skill development and growth

Involve the student in strategy meetings and brainstorming sessions to encourage collaboration and creative thinking

Share performance metrics and guide the student in analyzing and interpreting data

Assign meaningful projects with clear goals, deadlines, and opportunities for ownership

Encourage on-camera participation and offer coaching to build confidence and professionalism

Ensure the student has access to resources, guidance, and real-time learning opportunities at events and campaigns

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the internship, the student will be able to:

Create and execute content strategies tailored to specific social media platforms

Write clear and engaging copy for various audiences

Use key performance indicators (impressions, engagements, video views) to analyze content performance and inform strategy

Capture and edit mobile-first photo and video content for multi-platform use

Confidently appear on camera and represent an organization’s voice and values

Collaborate effectively with a team to meet communication goals

Manage content calendars and provide live coverage for events

Apply industry best practices and ethical standards in digital communications
