(SL) Resource Center Volunteer - Crossings at Cherry OrchardAt — Project Access

Opportunity Summary

What is Project Access?

Project Access is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that was founded in 1999. The seniors and families served by Project Access are “low-income”– that is, with incomes at or below 60% of the area median; and a substantial number are “very low-income” – often with incomes below $10,000 per year. Project Access runs over 100 Resource Centers in properties throughout 18 states and provides direct services to over 28,000 residents.

The Project Access Approach

Project Access works with housing developers/owners in a partial fee-for-service relationship to bring free services to residents within the housing community. This partial financial commitment and in-kind donation of space allows Project Access to bring additional resources together to develop comprehensive programs at our Resource Centers and offer a variety of programs and services to address individual and community needs.

Service-learning students play a meaningful role in supporting the programs and services offered at our Family and Senior Resource Centers, which benefit residents of affordable housing communities. Students assist the coordinator with day-to-day activities and engage directly with residents, gaining insight into the needs and strengths of the community.

This short-term experience is designed to help students connect classroom learning with real-world impact while building awareness of community resources and challenges. Students will be able to explore their interests, contribute their unique skills, and take away valuable experiences that can inform their academic and career paths.

Locations are available across Orange County and the surrounding area.
