Your Role - What You’ll Do:

As a Tax Intern, you’ll work 30–40 hours per week from late January to mid-April 2026, taking on real and meaningful client work that builds your skills while giving you the support and guidance to succeed. In this role you’ll collaborate with Mariner’s Tax professionals to learn about personal, fiduciary, S-Corporation, partnership, private foundation, and gift tax returns. This role provides hands-on learning that will enable you to develop foundational knowledge of tax planning and compliance. 

At Mariner, your growth matters. Through your internship, you will: 

  • Work in coordination with Wealth teams to service clients as it relates to integrated tax and wealth planning. 

  • Assist in the preparation of tax returns, income tax projections, estimated tax vouchers, and extension forms. 

  • Collaborate with our Tax professionals on special projects and work that directly supports our clients.

  • Strong aptitude for working with numbers and performing detailed calculations accurately.  

  • Basic knowledge of accounting or tax principles.  

  • Eagerness to learn and ask questions in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

  • High level of confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive client information.  

  • Strong organizational and time management skills to meet multiple deadlines.  

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain findings clearly.  

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; willingness to learn specialized tax planning and preparation software. 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree with an expected graduation date within 30 months of the start of the internship (January 2026). 

  • Demonstrated leadership experience through work or extracurricular activities. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Majoring in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field. 

 

Internship Eligibility: 

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future employer sponsorship needs. 

  • Available 30-40 hours per week during Spring 2026 (late-January to mid-April).

Our compensation reflects the cost of talent across multiple US geographic markets. The hourly pay for this position is $26 per hour. 

Tasks:

Prepare federal and state individual, fiduciary, partnership, S-corporation, private foundation, and gift tax returns under the supervision of a licensed tax professional.

Assist with tax projections, estimated tax calculations, and extension filings, including supporting schedules and workpapers.

Analyze source documents (e.g., W-2s, 1099s, K-1s, brokerage statements, contribution letters) and accurately input data into tax preparation software.

Perform tax research to help resolve client questions or support special projects (e.g., basis issues, charitable contributions, or estimated payment recommendations).

Prepare client deliverables and supporting documentation that will be reviewed by senior Tax Associates and Managers.

Collaborate with Wealth Management teams to align tax work with larger financial planning strategies (e.g., income planning, gifting, charitable strategies, retirement distributions).

Utilize Excel and specialized tax software to perform calculations, reconcile figures, and maintain organized workpapers for audit-ready files.

Support special client-related projects such as year-end planning, foundation filings, or tax impact analysis for planning scenarios.

Training:

All interns will attend a multi-day orientation to build foundational knowledge of Mariner, our culture, and our values. Throughout this orientation, interns will also benefit from specialized training on programs and processes needed to perform in their role. Following the end of the formal orientation and training period, interns will work side-by-side with tax professionals to get them up to speed, answer questions, and guide them in the early stages of the internship. Interns performance will be assessed throughout the internship, and leaders will provide direct feedback to support continued growth and improvement.

Learning Outcome:

1. Build foundational tax preparation and compliance skills (individual, fiduciary, partnership, S-Corporation, and gift tax returns, including tax projections, estimated payments, and extension filings).

2. Apply academic accounting/tax knowledge to real client situations.

3. Develop integrated tax and wealth planning awareness.

4. Strengthen technical software and data skills (Excel, tax prep software, and client systems).

5. Build professional communication and client-service skills.
