Teen Leadership Academy MentorAt — Corona-Norco Family YMCA
Mentors will have a hands on experience with our teens ranging from ages 12-17 years of age. Our Teen Leadership Academy provides a space for teens to learn and grow in their education, as well as life skills. Mentors will provide academic enrichment, tutoring, homework help, workshops, projects, and college preparation. They also will build interpersonal relationships to help give advice, coach, and develop our teens during this pivotal period in their life. Mentors will be asked to lead workshops, activities, and presentations to our teens.
Tasks:
Under consistent supervision, the intern will demonstrate their learning outcomes by coordinating, leading, and planning full group activities for students, monitoring and assisting with proper student behavior, social skills, and matters concerning health and wellness, encourage students and assist with job/college applications, develop our new social media corner for students to create content in alignment with common student interests we see today, and create a college spotlight workshop where the mentor will encourage others to attend their college in the future (develop a PowerPoint and present).
Training:
The student will be required to complete an online training. The online training will consist of a Child Abuse Prevention training. The student will also shadow and learn from YMCA staff on how to properly run the Teen Leadership Center.

Learning Outcome:
By the end of the internship, the student will be able to train and teach others, establish and maintain interpersonal relationships, think creatively for activities and ways to educate students, coach and develop others, and prepare and lead activities -teaching them to be comfortable leading classroom sized groups.
