This position is for a Teaching Assistant (TA) for an online, asynchronous undergraduate Learning and Memory course. The TA will support the instructional needs of the course by assisting with weekly grading, responding to student questions through approved communication channels, and helping monitor student progress. Responsibilities also include periodically meeting with the instructor to ensure alignment with course expectations, academic integrity guidelines, and departmental regulatory standards. This role offers the opportunity to deepen understanding of learning and memory concepts, gain experience with online teaching support, and develop skills in academic communication and student engagement.
Learning Outcomes
1) Develop competency in evaluating student work by applying consistent grading criteria and providing constructive, pedagogically informed feedback on weekly assignments.
2) Enhance communication and instructional support skills by effectively responding to student questions, clarifying course expectations, and promoting student engagement in an online asynchronous learning environment.

Training
1) Provide an initial orientation and training session outlining course structure, grading rubrics, communication expectations, and regulatory standards to ensure the TA is fully prepared for their responsibilities.
2) Conduct regular check-ins and supervision meetings to review grading samples, discuss challenges, ensure consistency, and offer guidance to strengthen the TA’s instructional support skills.
3) Model effective academic communication by demonstrating how to respond to student inquiries, provide clarity around assignments, and maintain appropriate professional boundaries in an online setting.
4) Review and give feedback on the TA’s grading and student interactions to help improve accuracy, fairness, and pedagogical alignment with course learning objectives.
5) Provide access to relevant instructional resources (e.g., sample graded assignments, teaching guides, learning and memory reference materials) to support the TA’s ongoing development and mastery of course content.
Tasks/Duties
1) Grading weekly assignments using the established rubrics and providing clear, constructive, and pedagogically appropriate feedback to students.
2) Responding to student questions in a timely and professional manner through approved communication platforms, ensuring clarity and supporting student understanding of course material.
3) Maintaining accurate records of completed grading, student concerns, and communication logs to support course organization and regulatory compliance.
4) Participating in regular supervision meetings to discuss grading consistency, reflect on challenges, and incorporate instructor feedback into ongoing TA duties.
5) Reviewing course content and instructional materials to enhance understanding of learning and memory topics and to support effective grading and student guidance.
