Social Media / Brand Marketing InternAt — SoCal Drone Film Festival
The Fullerton Drone Lab Social Media Marketing Intern promotes student programs in drone and autonomous systems by creating content, telling digital stories, and engaging with the community. This role works closely with management to capture authentic, impactful content that showcases student experiences, academic paths, career outcomes, and key technology projects.
This position is perfect for a student interested in marketing, communications, digital media, videography, journalism, film, or technology storytelling.
Tasks:
• Create and edit short-form video content for platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and LinkedIn
• Support UGC initiatives by working with students, Drone Ambassadors, apprentices, and faculty to capture authentic content
• Assist with filming student projects, lab activities, FPV flights, outreach events, and field operations
• Help develop weekly content calendars aligned with recruitment campaigns for dual enrollment, degree programs, and apprenticeship pathways
• Write captions, hashtags, and short-form scripts for reels, stories, and posts
• Audit performance metrics (views, shares, saves, comments) and identify high-performing content trends
• Support influencer-style collaborations with students, alumni, and industry partners
• Maintain organized content libraries (photos, b-roll, reels, interviews)
• Assist with basic graphic creation for posts, flyers, and announcements
• Support event promotion, announcements, and application window campaigns
• Uphold brand standards and professionalism in all posts
Training:
Social Media Marketing Interns will participate in a structured, mentored training program designed to develop technical, professional, and strategic communication skills.
In the first few weeks, interns complete a mandatory orientation that covers workplace expectations, safety, privacy, and an overview of the Fullerton Drone Lab’s academic programs and workforce partnerships. They also receive hands-on technical training in short-form video production, mobile filming, editing, graphic design, caption writing, and platform-specific best practices for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
Throughout the placement, interns attend weekly one-on-one mentor meetings for coaching, feedback on content, goal setting, and performance reviews. Monthly skills workshops focus on UGC storytelling, influencer-style content, campaign planning, analytics, equity-focused outreach, and messaging for parents and counselors.
Interns receive support through professional templates, content libraries, and branded media assets, and are gradually given more advanced responsibilities as their skills grow. Each task is fully aligned with campaign goals, target audiences, deliverables, and success metrics. Continuous self-assessment, review of best-practice literature, and supervisor feedback promote intentional learning and the creation of portfolio-ready content.
