The NEMT Driver Intern will provide safe, reliable, and courteous transportation for clients requiring non-emergency medical services. Working under the supervision of the company President and Field Operations Manager, the intern will assist with scheduling, route planning, client communication, and adherence to safety and compliance standards. This position offers practical experience in community and health services, professional client interaction, time management, and small-business operations.
Tasks:
List of duties may include but are not limited to:
- Conduct pre\u2010 and post\u2010trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance issues.
- Drive clients to and from appointments safely while maintaining professional conduct.
- Assist passengers entering and exiting the vehicle, ensuring safety and comfort throughout the trip.
- Communicate with clients and their families or care takers for updates on their service, delays or other details, as necessary
- Record trip details accurately, including mileage, times, and client information following HIPAA guidelines.
- Communicate with dispatch or management regarding schedule changes, client concerns, and emergencies.
- Participate in team meetings, feedback sessions, and performance reviews.
Training:
Training will include:
- Orientation and Policy Training: Introduction to company mission, values, code of conduct, and confidentiality practices.
- Driver Safety and Compliance Training: Instruction on vehicle operation and inspection, defensive driving, emergency procedures, and incident reporting.
- Customer Service Training: Guidance on communicating professionally, assisting clients with mobility challenges, and managing sensitive situations.
- Administrative Systems Overview: Training on route scheduling software, ride logs, and reporting procedures.
- Field Mentorship: Shadowing and ride alongs with an experienced NEMT driver before independently managing routes.

By the end of this internship, the student will be able to:
