Graphic Design InternAt — CSUF - College of Communications
The Graphic Design Intern designs layouts for print/digital news, collaborates with the marketing team on visuals, creates illustrations, prepares dummy files for press, and uses Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) to support fast-paced news and advertising production, build a portfolio, and ensure brand consistency, working under deadlines to enhance storytelling. Key ResponsibilitiesLayout & Design: Design and lay out newspaper pages, sections, and special features (e.g., infographics, photo illustrations).Collaboration: Work closely with the marketing team to understand content and visual needs.Visual Development: Create eye-catching graphics, banners, and other promotional materials.Production: Prepare dummy artwork for print and digital distribution, ensuring files are print-ready.Brand Adherence: Maintain consistency with university and publication branding guidelines.File Management: Organize and maintain digital design assets.
Tasks:
* Meet regularly with the advertising adviser, the director of marketing, and the sales manager.
* Manage communication with marketing coordinators to ensure all creative content meets deadlines and department standards.
* Manage all aspects of design and layout for the Daily Titan, in-house advertising and client advertising creative as needed.
Training:
There are several facets to ongoing training for the graphic design intern:
* The graphic design intern will be part of an all-staff orientation that will occur at the beginning of the semester.
* The faculty adviser will conduct weekly meetings with the graphic design intern to review overall goals for the semester, ongoing tasks and assessment of weekly activities.
* The faculty adviser will also meet with the graphic design intern to review design work, project flow and overall performance.
* In addition, the graphic designer intern will gain additional knowledge through industry professionals and colleagues through the Daily Titan's membership with CMBAM (College Media Business and Advertising Managers).
Learning Outcome:
1. Understand the importance of collaborating with the marketing team to deliver graphic design work that meets design brief expectations within a compressed amount of time.
2. Execute graphic design work independently.
3. Understand the significance of integrated marketing efforts as they relate to client business objectives.
